Welcome

Well, here it is. The daily goings on at our cozy little cottage. Sunday has been filled with all the things a Sunday should be! We woke to homemade lattes, whole milk of course! After both of us had our hand and soul warming lattes ready to go we headed out the door for a nature walk. The coldness felt refreshing and we decided that the air in January smells just as Oregon should; clean and crisp. On our walk we took note that our neighbors' yards and gardens looked similar to our own, brown, bare and ready for spring... but we did find encouragement in the little nubbins of bulbs starting to poke their heads through the soil as if to say, "hey guys, don't forget about me...I'll be here soon".

Our walk soon led us back to our little house where I was quick to make us our usual Sunday morning breakfast, unless of course it is a Market Day, because then we would be tucked into our little table over at Baker and Spice enjoying a sweet or savory little nosh to get us through our market shopping, oh how I do love that bakery. However, on non-market days David waits patiently while I make him his favorite breakfast. Very simple scrambled eggs, usually with eggs from our own hens, but as of now they are taking their winter vacation from laying. Some weeks I serve it up classic with a saute of onions and topped with a bit of cheese, other weeks our eggs don a more fiesta inspired taste with sour cream and hot sauce. But I always, always, always lay these delicious eggs atop the homemade bread I make weekly, toasted and buttered. This whole foods breakfast is the utmost of simplicity, but oh how we love it.

Once the breakfast dishes were put away David got busy with what he calls, "some heavy laying" while I buzzed around the house with laundry, bread baking and the weekly clean out of the chicken coop. Once all my Sunday chores were completed I was able to crawl upstairs to my "tree house". The tree house wears many hats; sewing room, craft space, a great place for movie watching or even a spot for David to set up that ever running work computer of his. But of late, by far my favorite hat that the tree house wears is home to my new turn table.
I have always been wanting my very own record player and now I have one! I found it at a little antique shop in Sellwood one weekend, thought about it all week long and then went back to make the purchase the very next weekend. I have loved digging through the used records found at our local thrift shop and can't wait to continue adding to my collection. I love the idea that someone else has listened to this music before me and I totally enjoy the slow pace of flipping and changing the record, which really is a different pace compared to a 500 song playlist on my i-pod.
Sunday evenings have always seen David and I enjoying a bottle of wine or local brew and a great local meal around our little dining room table. An actual sit down Sunday night dinner, always together, is something we started while we were in college. It gives us a chance to slow down a bit before the rush of the week and we always enjoy it. Tonight we will have some roasted winter vegetable served over quinoa or brown rice, homemade whole wheat rolls and share a Dagoba chocolate bar for dessert... what a way to have a Sunday.
